Cabin Light Candles harkens back to an age when all lighting in one’s house came from tallow-made products. (In fact, it was by tallow candles that Lewis and Clarke wrote their journals!) In the days before paraffin and soy wax, tallow candles were all most people could afford. Beeswax was a rare commodity that only the wealthy were able to purchase. As settlers and pioneers moved west their cabins were all lit by tallow candles.
Tallow is the pure, odorless oil that is obtained from rendering suet. The concept is very similar to the way many plant based oils are extracted. You begin with your raw product and through a series of steps you end up with the pure oil with all of the other material taken out.
Our rendering process is a purer process than could be done by early Americans but it is all done painstakingly by hand. Ingredients are simple. The result is remarkable.Candles that burn evenly and with no soot or smoking.
The consistency of tallow is softer than most waxes which means tallow candles burn very evenly. This means means no scraping wax off of the side of a jar or digging at the wax to find the wick.
